Warun is a tool, which I felt was missing in the climbing world since forever. Finding hyperlocal, historical weather data; data that would be free and high quality borders a miracle. In that sense Warun is a small miracle. And that's not all - Warun analyses the data and estimates climbing conditions based on them (and on the temperature of your preference)

In a nuthsell, "warun" (conditions) are influenced by a few important factors. First of all - weather data, so precipitation, temperature, air humidity, wind strength, insolation. One can use the best algorithms, shiny graphs, but without good data they are worthless. Second, the evolution of the data in time, so the algorithms. Precipitation accumulates, rain dries and snow melts. Third, human preference. Dryness of the rock is barely debatable, it is either dry or not, though you can definitely find some mediocre conditions connoisseurs. As for temperature, everyone likes it a bit different and some don't care at all.

I made Warun from a scratch, with support of many people I would like to givr credit to: Maciek constantly supports me with testing and promotion, new logo was made with Basia, previous logo and early UI was made by Kasia, later version was made with Albert's help. The was app tested by like 20-30 people from the community.

Warun is meant for people (and for myself) and not for profit. It is and will stay free in mobile version as well as in the browser, devoid of ads and microtransactions. I do not think there will be a paid premium version, however it is equally unlikely that there will be a widely available version without limitations. Because of those limitations, the registration process is necessary. There might be an unlimited version for promotional purposes.

As of today the only user data Warun gathers are login data and activity like favorite rocks (of course providers gather their own, this I cannot influence). At the very least there is no analytics by any provider on the website. So if you care a lot about your anonymity, use the browser version. Data is stored according to standard and they are not shared anywhere. I will also not spam you with emails, notifications and nonsens paid stuff.

I treat testing algorithms, searching for good models in scientific papers and data interpretation according to scientific standars as a matter of utmost importance. It is no easy task, because conditions are influenced by a lot of factors, and general and not overly complicated models are not easy to find. I had to come up with some parts of the models myself based on observations.

This approach originates from a few different issues, but the most important is that too many times I had AI provide me incorrect and made up answers. I prioritise rigor, control and simplicty much more. Moreover I think at least climbing should stay an AI free zone.

After 4 years of development, the app is fully usable and available in mobile and browser versions. It is definitely not the end of the development - the plan includes, but it is not limited to:

• possibility of rating current conditions
• reporting dangers/bird nests and other stuff
• Done - a map of the crags and their Warun
• Done - designing a better UI/UX by someone who knows what they are doing
• In progress - finding better data sources
• Done - improving algorithms to predict the Warun
• Partially done - IOS and browser version
• A lot of QoL stuff like deep links
• Moving fully to own hosting
